Anecdotal Notes
– May 21, 1986), Aunty Mary Kawena Puku'i was a Hawaiian scholar, dancer, composer, and educator. She was a part of my hula lineage thru my Kumu Charles K Jr Kaupu, and 'ohana to my hānai sister Laticia Castellanos. Orphaned at birth on Kaua'i island, Pat Namaka Bacon was adopted by Henry and Pa'ahana Wiggin at eight weeks old. She was then given to their daughter, Aunty Mary Kawena Pukui, who became her hānai (adopted) mother and lifelong companion. Solid yellow on 3", lighter toward the end of petals, good textured, all white on the back of petal, tight buds are light green, spicy fragrant. Very distinctive appearance, the scent reminds me of spring bulbs, like daffodil or hyacinth, and the creamy color palate is reminiscent of the same.
