Description
Chiang Mai Rainbow was discovered near a temple in the province of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Deep pink to maroon-pink buds develop into 3-3.5 inch star-shaped flowers of white and yellow with shades of pink and red-orange in the throat. Petals are slightly overlapping, sometimes with up to six per flower. The fragrance is strong, fresh, and spicy with lemon notes, described as smelling like very sweet lychee fruit. The leaves are large and thick. Growth is variable from small and slow-growing to tall and lanky.
Appearance
Star-shaped flowers; white and yellow petals; pink and red-orange throat; slightly overlapping; up to 6 petals; 3-3.5 inches; deep pink to maroon-pink buds; brilliant burnt-orange throat intensifying with heat and most prominent in older flowers.
Bloom
Star-shaped flowers; 3.5-4 inches (some forms); strongest when the flower is past a day old.
Fragrance
Strong fresh spicy lemon fragrance described as smelling like very sweet lychee fruit; odd lemon scent.
