Description
Col's Cooktown Sunset was discovered during the 1990s when Daryl O'Connor noticed prominent orange-appearing plumeria trees in residential gardens along the Queensland coast. In Cooktown, he found the best specimen in Colin's front yard, whose wife was happy to provide cuttings. Named for the resemblance to a sunset's red and yellow coloration, the cultivar was registered by or with help from the late Marilyn Vanderbergh of Cooktown Queensland. The flowers are 3-4 inches with orange and pink blending, fruity and spicy fragrance, and rare shape with long-lasting large bloom clusters. Growth is tall, lanky, and fast with snakey characteristics. The cultivar should have low water to prevent rubbery texture and root rot from compact soil. Colors are vibrant in any temperature, ranging from pale pink and lemon in early season to red and banana yellow in heat. The fragrance is fruity/spicy to sweet floral coconut scent, and it is easy to root and easy to bloom with sweet nice fragrance.
