Dark Reddish-maroon

Colors
RedPurpleBrown

Description

Dark velvety red, star-shaped flower measuring 3.5 to 4 inches with wide, elliptical petals that slightly overlap. Reddish-brown to purplish bands on the front and back produce a very dark red or maroon appearance. Keeping quality is excellent. Often confused with Scott Pratt and Hilo Beauty; Scott Pratt is darker with smaller (2.5 to 3 inch) flowers of thicker, waxy, rounded petals, while Hilo Beauty has larger 3 inch flowers with larger clusters and better keeping quality.

Appearance

Dark velvety red to maroon petals with a straight black line down the middle of each petal (a natural marking, not heat-induced). Petals are wide, elliptical, pointed, and slightly overlapping, creating a star shape. Reddish-brown to purplish bands appear on both front and back.

Bloom

Stingy bloomer that needs heat to bloom. Flowers measure 3.5 to 4 inches with excellent keeping quality.

Fragrance

Floral and spicy scent that increases in intensity after picking.

Growth & Foliage

Upright grower with dark green leaves. Leaves can turn purple. Cut branches tend to die back to the trunk.

Cultivation Tips

Should be grafted. Very difficult to root from cuttings, taking 3 to 6 months to produce good roots. Needs heat to bloom.
