Description

Gascoyne Gold (#390), registered by Paula Pugh Schipp as a seedling of A004 in 2004, produces huge, iridescent solid-gold blooms with pale pink undersides. The petals are very thick, velvety, and long-lasting, often six-petaled and ruffled rather than straight-edged, and resist fading. It is among the first cultivars to flower each spring and produces heavy, prolific clusters. The fragrance is medium in strength, described as pleasantly medicated, reminiscent of Lifebuoy soap with wintergreen ointment, with some reports likening it to a ladies' upmarket perfume. Easy to root.
