Description
A red-throated pink, pansy-type flower with a visually striking red and white combination from Houston. Blooms measure 3 to 4 inches with slightly overlapping pointed petals of good substance forming a star shape. Color is red maroon with delicate white veins radiating outward and brown red to dark yellow spreading from the center; young blooms show intense red that matures to red maroon. Blooms fade from nearly full red to a painted white and red after two days. Keeping quality is excellent. Fragrance is strong cinnamon and sweet fruity. Medium, compact, well-branched tree with a balanced canopy, good upright wood, and dark green foliage. In cooler, semi-coastal climates the color can develop an unappealing grayish-brown cast.
Appearance
Red maroon petals with delicate white veins and brown red to dark yellow spreading from the center. Pointed tips, slightly overlapping, wide, of good substance, forming a star or pansy shape. Young flowers are intense red, maturing to red maroon; fades to a painted white and red after two days. Dense clusters.
Bloom
3 to 4 inch flowers in dense clusters with many flower heads. Excellent bloomer with excellent keeping quality.
Fragrance
Strong cinnamon and sweet fruity floral fragrance.
Growth & Foliage
Medium, compact, well-branched tree with balanced, narrow-branched growth. Dark green foliage and good-sized wood.
Cultivation Tips
Color performs best in warm climates; cooler, semi-coastal climates can produce grayish-brown tones.
