Description
Produces large blooms around 5 inches with good color and medium fragrance. (Description also discusses Kapalua, an admitted rename from Richard Toba, originally 'Aunty J', from L. Montgomery's aunt's property in Lahaina, Maui. Kapalua has great keeping quality, tropical to strong sweet perfumed fragrance, large and heavy growth with excellent branching, super fast growth, huge leaves, the last to drop leaves, and many color changes through the bloom cycle. It is very hard to root and grow, cold hardy, a water lover, and sets seed. Also references Kapi'olani, a rare waffled red named for the wife of King Kalākaua, founder of Kapi'olani Maternity Home and Kapi'olani Home for Girls, attendee of Queen Victoria's 1887 Golden Jubilee.)
