Leona Hoke Hawaii
Colors
OrangePurpleRed
Description
Similar to Waimea and possibly a seedling of it, but clearly distinct: the growth habit and fragrance differ, and Leona Hoke does not blacktip in the Gulf Coast whereas Waimea does. Produces 3" fiery red and orange flowers with a matte finish, red base shifting to orange at the center and purple on the tips, on a medium tree. Every bloom is shaped like a starfish. Fragrance is a strong, sweet frangipani scent. Substance and keeping quality are excellent. Similar in color but not in shape to Siam Ruby. Sets seed. The original source tree near Waikiki Beach was cut down by a new homeowner.
