Description

Open-pollinated seedling of Gold and sibling to Kimo, released to the Hawaii Association of Nurserymen by CTAHR in 1973 and named in honor of Mrs. Lurline Matson Roth. Produces 3.5 to 4-inch flowers in a combination of reddish-orange on yellow with purplish-red tips and outer margins and a bright orange star in the center. Petals are long, wide, and elliptical, moderately overlapping, with rounded, reflexed tips and medium to thick texture. Reverse has a purplish-red outer band merging into a light reddish-yellow inner band. Keeping quality is very good. Sets seed. Developed by Angus with Peterson's Gold as the mother plant. Known to be temperamental, prone to disease, and difficult to grow unless conditions are ideal; prone to black tip, branches seal over, often skips blooming every other year, drops blooms, slow and hard to root, new tips are dark purple, performs poorly in Southern California, and is best grafted into well-draining soil.
