Description

P. bahamaensis is a species plumeria originally found in the Bahamas, now extinct in the wild. It forms a compact, upright, medium to large shrub or medium short tree resembling a miniature P. obtusa. Flowers are pure white with a small yellow center, about 2 inches across, with narrow, slightly long petals and all-white backs. The evergreen leaves are obtuse with thick veins protruding from the undersides as in P. obtusa, but narrower and more numerous. Fragrance is sweet and strong despite the small flower size, reminiscent of murraya, with a bitter citrus note in some accounts. Similar to P. montana though lacking the thick waxy texture of P. obtusa. The plant is cold tolerant, a prolific seed producer, and somewhat shrub-like in habit.
