Description
A classic Thai plumeria producing 2.5 to 3.5-inch red to red-orange sunset-toned flowers with deep yellow to gold centers. Petals are oval, strongly overlapping, of heavy, almost waxy substance and velvety appearance dusted with gold toward the center. Compared to Siam Ruby, petals are more pointed but broader. Flowers pass through several color stages as they age, developing a mosaic look that fades toward purple. Produces very large inflorescences on tall, upright trees with well-branched plants and long bloom season; described variously as sweetly scented (plumeria scent) or as very light or non-fragrant. Not cold tolerant and difficult to root; not a prolific bloomer but flower spikes are long-lasting. Sets seed. Associated with seedlings named Daeng Sayem, Dang Sayem, and Siam Red #2.
