Description
Broomstick Rainbow originated on Oahu in the 1980s and was named by Kathy Mras for a local Hawaiian tree that had a red broom lodged high in its branches, thrown there by children. Flowers have a slight fragrance and are bright yellow with red edges that glow neon orange at sunset. It is a poor graft host but is easy to grow, fast to root and grow, and produces tons of lei-quality flowers on a well-branched plant. It is resistant to blacktip, and when trimmed it behaves like a red, dying back to the lower joint but rooting and able to bloom in the same season. It is not the same as Pu’u Kahea.
