Description

One of the most striking Moragne hybrids. Flowers measure 4 to 5.5 inches, appearing orange upon opening and fading to reddish pink with white curved edges, a red eye, deep cerise throat, and tight pinwheel shape. Narrow petals have pointed tips, slight overlap, and heavy texture. Large golden yellow bands and pinkish orange lines radiate outward, with showy red veins and a grainy red-purple overlay. Buds are dark red. Fragrance is a strong, sweet, fruity rose or smooth honey. Keeping quality is good. Elliptical green leaves with red borders and acute tips. Tall, vigorous, and very fast growing tree with upright, long branches and a rangy, sometimes unsightly, branching habit. Cold tolerant. Heavy bloomer. Seed parent is Daisy Wilcox; pollen parent is Scott Pratt. Named in honor of the daughter-in-law of William Moragne, Sr. Can produce seed pods.

Appearance

Bloom

4 to 5.5 inch flowers with good keeping quality. Heavy bloomer; some blooms remain half-open for extended periods.

Strong sweet fruity rose; also described as smooth honey.

Growth & Foliage

Tall, vigorous, very fast-growing tree with upright, long branches and a rangy, poorly shaped branching habit. Huge leaves. Can get 6 inches or taller.

Cultivation Tips

Root in dry conditions. Prone to rust and sensitive to soil compaction. Cold tolerant. Recommended for coastal growing.

One of the most striking flowers of the Moragnes. It has all the best characteristics for flower judging. Up to 5 1/2” with orange streaking upon opening to slight pink at the edge of the petals. A star shape with mild fragrance. Very large - up to 5 1/2" and appear orange upon opening blending to pink at the edges with very showy red veins. Grainy overlay of red-purple light on the left side of the petal and becomes a dense stripe on the right which forms the apparent shades of red and orange. A breath taking large flower 4" that appears cerise upon opening, fading to paler pink with white curved edges, red eye, deep cerise throat, tight pinwheel shape, heavily overlapped, petals round. Strong sweet fruity rose scent, good texture. Spectacular 5 ½" bright pink star-shape with dark pink streaks radiating from the gold center. Tall vigorous growing tree.
