Lava

Colors
YellowPinkOrange

Description

Grainy, streaky pink with orange-yellow center. Glowing colors from lava-colored throat with large rounded petals. Possibly one of collector Gloria Schmidt's seedlings or spotted near Pearl Harbor by Clark (Jim Little's son). Good fragrance. Compact grower with large full flower heads. Fragrant and unusually colored. The eye is like lava (reddish-orange) with veins flowing out onto peach-colored petals. Back is streaked with red-orange stripe. Bright yellow-orange with bright pink veins, reddish-orange strip on petal back, 3 inch, thick petals, strong fragrance smelling like rose. Fat branches. How much red-orange versus yellow varies with weather and soil. Mostly yellow to yellow with broad red edge. Some get disappointed by less bright coloring. Wonderful fragrance. Tall grower with huge leaves. Recommended for fragrance. Cold sensitive; easy rooter, fast grower, easy to graft. Colors turn solid reddish-orange above 98 degrees. Slow grower tends to nub. Fussy, takes forever to flower, blooms well once started. Sets seed.
