Barbara Randolph: I found what is now registered as Summer Spice during my early years of trips to HI. Found it in 1989 but not sure what island. Those were the days when all our named and registered cultivars were pretty much unknown. Anyway, I considered it worthy of registration Summer 2002 because it was different from what was already registered and the scent was amazing. It's such a heavy bloomer on a mature tree and the heads can be 8" in diameter and it has a heavy texture. PSA officially registered it in 2002. Even though I've downsized my collection over the past 40 years, SS still remains as one of my favorites, even with all the new varieties available worldwide. Seed parent to Heirloom. Sets seed.
