Ted Chinn Deep
Colors
YellowWhitePinkOrange
Description
Ted Chinn produces large blooms up to 4 inches across, intensely pink with orange centers and white veins streaking on the reverse. Fragrance is mild and sweet. The plant is a steady, heavy bloomer with good, thick branching and an unusual texture. Injuries to a branch cause it to die back to the stem, so careful handling is required. The cultivar is named for Ted Chinn, who as a graduate student under Dr. Richard Criley in the University of Hawaii's Department of Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences (CTAHR) was responsible for collecting and cataloging many plumeria that became part of the UH collection and growing field in Waimanalo, Oahu. In 1970, CTAHR released Kimo (named for Ted's father, James) and Elena (named for his mother). There is also a cultivar Tedd Chinn named for him by Jim Little, and Lillian K.T. Chinn named for his wife.
