Description

Discovered in Hawaii by Jim Little's son, Clark. Resembles Leona Hoke but differs in growing habit, fragrance, and longer bloom period. Flowers are 3" to 3.5" across, intensely red-pink with peachy-orange centers and a reddish-purple outline on the outer petals; outer petals also carry slight lavender-purple hues as flowers lighten. Petals are rounded, overlapping, and have excellent velvety texture. Fragrance is distinctive and variously described as root beer, spice, rose, or mild sweet floral. Growth habit is large and arching, with huge branches, huge leaves (typically 10" or less), and huge bloom heads reminiscent of Aztec Gold, though more arching. Young plants tend to bend and curve before becoming more upright after about five feet, so support is needed. Roots well once established but is slow to root initially. Water lover, tall, and a generous bloomer. Flowers hold their color well in direct Florida sunlight. Blooms are thick with great keeping quality. Recommended for fragrance. Sets seed.

Appearance

3" to 3.5" intensely red-pink to hot-pink flowers with peachy-orange centers and lavender-purple to reddish-purple hues on outer petal rims; rounded, overlapping petals with velvety texture.
